Our hand knitted, 100% Icelandic wool hooded Sundborn Sweater is offered by commission only and only in the Ensemble which includes the essentials necessary for the safekeeping of this exceptional heirloom garment.
It is knitted by hand in GreenWool, the premium wool fiber created on our small family farm from our hand raised sheep who produce luxuriant, luscious, dual coated fleeces. Each animal’s fresh fleece, without picking and carding, is hand spun by our skilled local artisans into yarn suitable for a single garment of unique desirability and longevity.
The newly spun skeins are next hand washed outdoors in spring fed waters with vegetable soaps and allowed to dry in a breezy cool shade.
The finished, completely unadulterated yarn, is then made available to one person in our circle of local hand knitters who proceeds with loving intention to fashion this special presentation.
Because the Sundborn Sweater in GreenWool is hand wrought completely in-house at our farm, we are able to track with careful quality control the continuum from shearing, through spinning, washing, and knitting to ensure each garment is created from a single animal’s wool.
Most important, because from before conception through gestation, birth, and fleece production no chemical contamination or untoward treatment has affected our purebred Icelandic flock, our Sundborn Sweater is uniquely pristine but also highly susceptible to infestations which have traditionally challenged pure wool garments.
Thorough cleaning and secure storage are therefore vital. At the end of each sweater season, the Sweater must be naturally and scrupulously cleaned in preparation for storing. We offer each Sweater’s recipient this service for an additional consideration.
As repository for the Sundborn Sweater’s safekeeping, our Ensemble provides an archival, organic cotton muslin storage bag and hardwood, cedar-lined chest. Moth Balm, our own herbal formula of seven highly effective deterrents, in replaceable sachets, tucked into hand embroidered pillow shams completes our Ensemble. And
in order to maintain and benefit from the energetic continuum of its unique production which guarantees satisfaction, our Ensemble is available by commission only.
